Crime reduction and humanizing the badge are top priorities for cities and police departments across the country. Helping to lead the charge in southeast Missouri is the Cape Girardeau Police Chief’s right hand, Administrative and Social Media Coordinator Sara Stensland.
Sara has been serving the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the city since 2001. She is involved in all key functions including serving on several committees, personnel processing, coordinating civic club visits, and facility management.
As the Cape Girardeau Police Department was finishing the construction of a state-of-the-art, $11.4 million, 35,500-square-foot headquarters and jail facility, their lieutenant project manager retired. Sara stepped up to coordinate the final details of the project and move of the large department and all of their equipment.
The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad also calls upon Sara. During their intensive, 72-hour activations for homicide investigations, she’s the central point of collection of all the leads and reports. She organizes and synthesizes interviews and mountains of data rapidly, helping detectives act on new information and insights.
Sara keeps her department active on several social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. In a community of under 40,000 people, their Facebook page has nearly 19,000 followers, because she’s always bringing new ideas and energy to her officers and management staff to keep their crime reducing success and humanity front and center in the public eye.
