Cape Serves – Genesis Buitrago

Genesis Buitrago is an accomplished local student with a passion for bettering her community.

Buitrago is a recent Cape Central High graduate who filled her time becoming involved in her school and community. She has been Student Body President, a National Honor Society member, and a Student Senate member.

She has been a high school helper at Alma Schrader Elementary where she helped a Kindergarten class by performing duties such as filing paper, making crafts, and assisting students with more challenging materials. She also volunteered at Franklin Elementary for their parent-teacher conferences, Fall Festival, and Superhero Literacy Night.

Buitrago accomplished all of this while also working two jobs at New McKendree Methodist Church and Wings Etc. in Jackson.

She received the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau scholarship for Young Women in Public Affairs. She will be attending the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Buitrago’s favorite things about Cape Girardeau are the parks and nature. She enjoys being outside and spending time with her friends. They spend much of their free time in their favorite local parks.

Some of her passions include leadership, expressing herself, connecting with people, and traveling. She hopes to further explore her passions and help others in the future.
