Robbery Suspect Arrested and Charged

A suspect has been arrested and charged with three separate robbery incidents. Ann Elizabeth Heilman, a 59 year-old Cape Girardeau resident, was arrested by the Cape Girardeau Police Department on November 24, 2016. Heilman has been charged with two class C felonies of attempted robbery in the second degree, one class A felony of robbery in the first degree, and one class C felony of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine). Her bond was set at $50,000, and she was transported to the Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Office.
The first charge of attempted robbery resulted from an incident that occurred on October 24, 2016, on the parking lot of Trinity Lutheran Church, 100 N. Frederick. The victim reported the suspect sprayed her in her face with pepper spray and then demanded her purse. The suspect fled before acquiring any of the victim’s property.
The second charge of attempted robbery stems from an incident at Chocolate Works, 411 Broadway, on October 28, 2016. The suspect entered the business, displayed pepper spray, and demanded money from the register. The suspect fled when the employee did not cooperate.
The charge of robbery resulted when the suspect returned to Chocolate Works on November 17, 2016. During this incident, the suspect brandished what was described as a large piece of wood and demanded money. The suspect was able to obtain an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the business.
In each incident, the suspect was covering her face. The victims initially believed the suspect was male.
On November 24, a Cape Girardeau police officer located Heilman walking near the intersection of Middle and Broadway, where she was taken into custody. A white substance believed to be cocaine was found in her possession.
