Purpose Built Community Meeting Nov. 16 at 9 a.m.

The City of Cape Girardeau will host a meeting on Wednesday, Nov.16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Shawnee Center to let the Purpose Built Communities team share their approach to improving neighborhoods. The meeting will focus on south Cape Girardeau, but all are welcome to attend.
Purpose Built Communities (PBC) is a non-profit organization out of Atlanta, Ga., which was
successful in turning around a very troubled East Lake neighborhood in Atlanta. They then began to develop a model that they have been using in 19 different cities across the United States.
The PBC model identifies a defined neighborhood and uses three pillars of mixed income housing, education, and community wellness to produce accountable outcomes for both people and placed-based, holistic revitalization. City officials say they believe this model will help residents work with officials, agencies and other partners to improve neighborhood conditions in south Cape Girardeau.
The meeting Wednesday will introduce the concept to neighborhood attendees and stakeholders. The PBC team will share their initial impressions of the neighborhood and its current conditions. City officials say they hope to have a large variety of partners and residents attend to hear more about the concept and give feedback to the Purpose Built Communities employees who will be presenting at the meeting.
