Sidewalk Addition Between Village Drive, Amethyst Street – Sidewalk Gap Project

Sidewalk repair and construction is ongoing near Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, with work currently taking place along the eastern side of North Sprigg Street between Village Drive and Rhodes 101 Convenience Store.
Work at this section is expected to last two to three weeks, weather permitting. Once this phase is completed, sidewalk work will begin along Sprigg between Emerald to Amethyst streets. The project’s limit eventually extends down to the Lafayette Place apartments.
Traffic signs will be in place, and lane shifts may be necessary during portions of the work. As always, drivers are asked to use caution in and near the work zone.
The work, known as the “sidewalk gap project”, was initiated to fill in areas without sidewalks to connect to existing sidewalks, and make repairs where needed. The majority of the program results in entirely new sidewalks being built, adding to the City’s transportation infrastructure.
Funding for this portion of sidewalk comes from the Transportation Trust Fund approved by voters. The project will cost approximately $127,000 and the contractor is Nip Kelley Equipment.
