During the Sept. 6 City Council meeting, Mayor Harry Rediger issued a proclamation honoring Mr. Jim Hicks with St. Andrew Lutheran Church for his extensive contributions to his church and the citizens of Cape Girardeau.

The proclamation’s text is as follows:
Whereas, Jim Hicks, known to most as Mr. Jim, has been Lay Minister at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau for 40 years;
Whereas, while at St. Andrew, he has served as Lay Minister, Education Director, led the Children’s Ministry, and developed Camp Sunshine;
Whereas, he also oversaw the area-wide Confirmand’s Retreat, led the 6th grade confirmation class, and helped coordinate the Small Groups’ Bible Study at St. Andrew;
Whereas, Jim Hicks coached the St. Andrew Church League Basketball Team for high school age boys for some years, and won many city championships;
Whereas, in July 2016, he retired from his position at St. Andrew Lutheran Church;
Whereas, Mr. Jim has made a profound impact on the youth in his community and was directly responsible for mentoring and nurturing hundreds, if not thousands of young children, adolescents, and teenagers.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Harry E. Rediger, Mayor of the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, do hereby recognize the achievements of Jim Hicks.
