On Monday, September 12, 2016, at approximately 5:30 a.m. the Cape Girardeau Police Department was notified of a two vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 55 near the 100.8 mile marker. One of the drivers was found to be deceased: Carl Wayne Black, a 59-year-old Altenburg resident. The other driver and a passenger in that vehicle were taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and tampering with physical evidence. This case has been forwarded to the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney for review. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
