Adopt A Street: Help Keep Cape Girardeau Clean

Spending just a little time with your friends and colleagues cleaning up a street in Cape Girardeau can go a long way in helping your city look – and stay looking – fabulous.
An Adopt-A-Street program is a partnership between the City, residents and businesses to “adopt” and keep a stretch of roadway, sidewalks, and drains clean from debris and trash.
To adopt Cape’s streets, simply pick out the stretch of roadway you’d like to regularly clean up with your group or business. Excellent locations to choose include those roads that see a larger traffic volume. The selected area should be one for which the City of Cape Girardeau provides maintenance (example: Kingshighway and a portion of William Street are maintained by MoDOT, not the City). Next, contact Solid Waste Superintendent Mike Tripp at 573-339-6351 to register for your selection and provide the dates you’ll be cleaning. Trash bags will be provided for you by Public Works. Once you’ve cleaned your street, simply notify Tripp and a crew will pick up the bagged refuse.
The adopted street should be cleaned up at least once per month. Once your group or business has successfully cleaned your stretch of roadway at least once per month for three months, a sign will be added with your name to your adopted street.
Currently, four adopted street areas are actively maintained by local businesses and organizations in Cape Girardeau. The VFW maintains a portion of Broadway, the Southeast Missourian and Concord Printing maintains a portion of William Street, Isle Casino Cape Girardeau has adopted a portion of Main Street, and Public Works maintains Southern Expressway.
For more information or to adopt your street, please contact the City of Cape Girardeau Public Works Department at 573-339-6351.
