Utility relocation work will start next week in preparation for the roundabout construction coming this fall at the Independence & East Rodney / Gordonville intersection. City staff, contractors, Alliance Water, Ameren Gas and Charter Cable have been coordinating their efforts to keep road closures as short as possible.
Monday, July 25 – Friday July 29
- Independence Street, west of the intersection, will be closed to traffic (in both directions) for an estimated period of three days.
Detour Route: Westbound Independence Street traffic will be detoured south on Gordonville Road and North on Silver Springs to return to Independence. Eastbound Independence traffic will be detoured north on Silver Springs, east on Themis and south on East Rodney to return to Independence.
- East Rodney, north of the intersection, will be closed to traffic (in both directions) for an estimated period of two days immediately following the reopening of Independence Street.
Detour Route: During that time, southbound traffic on East Rodney will be detoured west on Themis, south on Silver Springs to Independence. Northbound traffic will be detoured west on Independence, north on Silver Springs and east on Themis to East Rodney.
Schedules are subject to change due to weather and other factors. Drivers should consider alternate routes. Always use an abundance of caution around road crews and construction zones.
The entire intersection will be closed beginning Monday, Sept. 19 for a period of 60 days for roundabout construction. These intersection improvements, designed to improve traffic flow, were approved by voters as part of the Transportation Trust Fund 4 in 2010.
