Several ongoing public and private utility and road projects in Cape Girardeau have resulted in road closures and/or detours. This list, while not all-inclusive, encompasses many of the current and upcoming projects.
- A portion of Bloomfield Road between Mt. Auburn and Siemers Drive in Cape Girardeau will be closed as Missouri Department of Transportation perform bridge repairs on the Interstate 55 overpass along Bloomfield. Weather permitting, work will take place June 14-15, starting at 8 a.m. daily. The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area, and consider using alternate routes. - Utility work by several contractors working on the new KFC in Cape Girardeau will close a portion of Sheridan Street, starting Tuesday, May 31. Work is expected to take about one week, weather permitting. Traffic will be re-routed to Albert Street during the project.
- Sections of Route 74 (Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge) in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced with a 16-foot width restriction as contractor crews perform bridge maintenance. Weather permitting, work will take place Thursday, May 12 through Monday, Oct. 31 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Please watch for workers completing the maintenance along the bridge during this process and proceed with caution.
