Gardening Activities for Ages 5-12 in Cape Girardeau, Community Gardens

The Cape Girardeau Community Gardens group is hosting the Cape Marketeers’ Club on June 18 and Oct. 1 from 9-10 a.m. at the Shawnee Park Demonstration Garden, located next to the Shawnee Park Center at 836 South West End Boulevard in Cape Girardeau.
During the event, children ages 5-12 are invited to participate in a garden activity led by Master Gardener Jamie Koehler. After participating in the activity, kids will receive $5 in tokens to purchase fruits and vegetables from the Cape Riverfront Market.
The Marketeers’ Club is a free educational program for kids, ages 5-12 years old. This program emphasizes the importance of fresh, local food and teaches kids about nutrition, science and growing food through hands-on demonstrations and activities.
The Cape Marketeers Club is made possible by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services through a HEAL (Healthy Eating and Active Living) grant with guidance from the Healthy Communities Coalition.
