Cape Girardeau Police Department Officers Recognized for Life-Saving Efforts

Cape Girardeau Police Department officers Ptlm. Templeton, Ptlm. Newton, Ptlm. Yoder, and Ptlm. Alsdorf were recognized during the Feb. 1 City Council meeting by Chief Blair and the Council for their heroic actions in saving the lives of two alleged burglary suspects on Jan. 27.
Officers became involved in the pursuit of a vehicle believed to be occupied by two burglary suspects the morning of Jan. 27. As the alleged suspects fled from officers, their driving became more erratic and dangerous to themselves, our officers, and citizens. The result of their attempt to avoid apprehension was a fiery, one-vehicle accident on a winding and hilly road in Cape Girardeau County.
As Officers Templeton, Newton, Yoder, and Alsdorf approached the scene, they discovered both subjects were still in the cab of the truck, unable to escape the fire rapidly approaching the passenger compartment. The Officers approached the burning vehicle and were able to get the trapped individuals to safety.
