Fire at 389 Country Club Dr. – Nov. 16, 2015

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was dispatched at 8:11 p.m. to a report of a house fire with flames visible inside the building at 389 Country Club Dr. The house is a single story, wood frame, ranch-style residence. Battalion 1 arrived on scene and gave a brief initial report of smoke showing and announced an offensive mode. A neighbor advised them that the resident may be trapped inside. The mode was then changed to the search mode. E-3 arrived on scene and made an aggressive interior attack through the front door with pre-connected 13/4” hose line. A firefighter fell through the first floor and into the basement. A mayday was called,and the firefighter was rescued and injuries were assessed. E-1 made entry at the back of the structure where the victim was reported to be located. E-1 found and removed the victim from the rear of the house, then was received by EMS and transported. E-2, R-4 and L-1 performed primary and secondary searches and completed vertical ventilation. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to assist Cape’s fire investigators.

Additional noteworthy information: Off-duty Cape Girardeau Fire Department personnel called in and staffed Ladder 2 at Station 1 and Engine 6 at Station 4.  Jackson Engine staffed at Station 1 and Scott City Engine staffed Station 2. One firefighter fell thru the first floor into the basement. A mayday was initiated per department protocols.  Firefighter was located by other firefighters and was assisted outside.  Another firefighter also received an injury from falling debris and received treatment at a local hospital.
