Sadie Betts 100th Birthday Proclamation at Sept. 1 City Council Meeting

Congratulations to Cape Girardeau centenarian Sadie Betts on her 100th birthday. Mayor Harry Rediger issued a proclamation to Betts during the Sept. 1 City Council meeting, honoring her birthday.

The proclamation text is as follows:
Whereas, Sadie Betts was born on August 30, 1915, in the State of Arkansas to Harrison and
Julia Fleming. She had one brother Willie Fleming (deceased); and whereas, in 1924, at age of nine years, Sadie and her family moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and whereas, Sadie attended John Cobbs School until the sixth grade; and whereas, on December 28, 1981, Sadie married William Betts; and whereas, Sadie owned her own ironing service in her home where she made 50 cents per day, and she worked other jobs. Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Harry E. Rediger, Mayor of the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, do hereby recognize and honor Sadie Betts on her 100th Birthday and extend to her my personal congratulations, as well as those of the citizens of the City of Cape Girardeau. Further, we extend to her our best wishes for happiness and health in the future. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Seal of the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, this 1st day of
