Household Hazardous Waste Collection in Cape Girardeau on Oct. 10

hhwCity of Cape Girardeau residential trash and recycling customers can bring household hazardous waste to our upcoming collection event Oct. 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at the 4-H Building in Arena Park. The service is provided by the Public Works Department, funded in part by a Missouri Department of Natural Resources Solid Waste Management District grant.
The event is free for said customers and will be held rain or shine. Customers must deliver and drop off their household hazardous waste in leak proof containers.
Here’s a list of accepted items and more information: HHW Flyer 2015
The program helps residents dispose items that are not accepted in normal weekly trash service. The last household hazardous waste collection event was held in October 2011. Securing the grant helped make the event possible again in 2015.
Examples of accepted items include: Acids, adhesive, antifreeze, artist paint, auto wax, brake fluid, degreaser, fluorescent light bulbs, gasoline, kerosene, used motor oil and filters, and varnish. This list is not all-inclusive; see full list here.
Latex paint in solid form may be disposed in your normal trash, as long as it is dried out and solidified. Public Works can offer solidifying instructions.
Paper shredding will also be available.
