Cape Girardeau Police Department Introducing New Patrol Vehicles

The Cape Girardeau Police Department has begun introducing new patrol vehicles into its fleet. These new vehicles include the Dodge Charger and the Ford Explorer Police Utility Vehicle (both pictured below). Currently there are just a few that are being used, but more will be introduced as the current cars need to be replaced. These new vehicles have a new design as well.
Police vehicles are funded by the Fire Sales Tax and Public Safety Trust Fund. Vehicles will be replaced as needed every 7-10 years made possible with renewal of the Fire Sales Tax in fall 2014.
Police vehicles are also equipped with laptops to give officers access to the data they need to be more effective and spend more time patrolling city streets.
