When disaster strikes our lives, homes, communities, and businesses may be damaged or destroyed. Community organizations, working in coordination with first responders, provide vital assistance to those affected. Several of those organizations in Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry, and Scott counties have formed Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD).
COAD does not directly provide services to affected residents. The group creates a framework to identify existing community resources and allows organizations to work together effectively in providing assistance. This inter-agency collaboration helps ensure that service delivery is improved following disasters.
COAD membership is open to all who have a stake in disaster response, and provides networking and training opportunities. Existing members include government agencies, hospitals and health industry representatives, regional media partners, public safety, business representatives including banking officials, and many others.
