Officer Involved Shooting, Town House Inn

On Saturday February 28th around 10:51 A.M, a Cape Girardeau Police Officer was assisting the U.S. Marshals service at the Town House Inn, located at 505 North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The Marshals were attempting to locate:

James Wilkins DOB 12/25/1986
Wanted for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Out of Tunica, Mississippi

When officers attempted to contact Wilkins in room 206, a female answered the door and indicated that she was not alone. The female was removed from the doorway, and Wilkins came out of the bathroom holding a gun. Wilkins saw the officers and ducked back into the bathroom. Wilkins ignored all verbal commands to give up. Wilkins then came back out of the bathroom pointing the gun at the officer and Marshals. At this time, the Cape Girardeau Police Officer and Marshals fired at Wilkins who was struck once in the chest. Wilkins was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for serious injuries. No officer or Marshal was injured. Wilkins remains at a local hospital. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
