Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri has extensive experience providing home repairs in times of disaster, and they have a large volunteer network available to assist senior citizens through their Home Repair Services program.
The Program is available to qualified homeowners in Cape Girardeau County. To qualify, one must be at least 60 years of age, and their yearly household income must be 80 percent or less of the average median income for the county ($29,900 for one person or $34,200 for two people).
To apply, please call 573-335-0134. An intake evaluation is conducted, consisting of income and ownership verification and proof of residency. A Construction Assessment Team determines the scope of work needed, evaluates the project as appropriate for volunteer labor or through other sources, and makes arrangements for project completion.
Costs for any one project are limited to $2,000. Eligible repairs include weatherization, repair or replacement of major systems, environmental repairs, accessibility, code violations, emergency home repair, and tree surgery or removal (if the integrity of the home’s structure is threatened).
Partial funding for the program is provided by the Senior Citizens’ Services Fund of Cape Girardeau County.
