The Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission is now accepting nominations for its 2015 Endangered Buildings List. The Commission created the list in 2012 to promote awareness of historic buildings in the community that are “at risk” of being lost due to pending demolition, physical deterioration, and/or long term vacancy. Nominations may be submitted through the City’s website at http://www.cityofcapegirardeau.org/CityHall/Historic-Preservation-Commission.aspx, by email to email@example.com, or by mail to: Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission, 401 Independence Street, Cape Girardeau, Missouri 63703. Those submitting a nomination are asked to include a statement explaining the building’s historic significance, why they believe it is endangered, suggestions for what measures could be taken to save it, and a photo of the building in its current condition.
The deadline for submitting nominations is March 10, 2015. The HPC will review the nominations on March 18, 2015 and finalize the list on April 15, 2015. Both meetings are open to the public and will be held in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 401 Independence Street.
