The City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the Vision 2000 Garden relocation project in downtown Cape Girardeau is completed. Several finishing touches on the garden will occur next spring, along with our official ribbon cutting celebration.
The Parks and Recreation Department’s special projects crew completed all the work “in-house” and were able to enhance many of the garden’s features. The garden, originally located behind City Hall, needed to be moved due to Broadway Stormwater Project improvements along Merriwether Street and to the parking lot behind City Hall.
The project coordinator for this and the original Vision 2000 Garden, Mr. Melvin Gateley, was instrumental in selecting the new location just off of William and Main streets, adjacent to the Red House Interpretive Center. This new location for the garden provides improved public visibility and allows the purchase of additional engraved bricks by the public. New features added to the garden through fund raising efforts include a rock water fountain and new signage.
