Railroad Work Begins Aug. 13 Through Cape Girardeau Riverfront, Nash Road

BNSF Railway Co. will begin work on Aug. 13 to replace cross ties and other crossing components throughout Cape Girardeau. The work affects a portion of Nash Road, and downtown riverfront locations including La Cruz Street, the Themis Street pedestrian gate and the Broadway pedestrian gate, as well as the Red Star Access boat ramp. Work is expected to conclude on Friday, Aug. 15.

Each crossing will close for a short period of time as repairs are made. Motorists are asked to consider using an alternate route and use caution in this, and all, road work areas.

Parking in downtown Cape Girardeau along the railroad will be restricted during daytime hours as work is completed. Spaces in the parking lots along the railway at the corner of Broadway and Water Street, along Water Street, and along the railway near the Boardman Pavilion (across from Hutson’s Fine Furniture). Only portions of the larger lots next to the railway will be closed; most of the lots will be open for daytime parking as will Main and Spanish Streets.

The work is likely to cause small, flying debris, which is the reason for restricted daytime parking. Downtown patrons will be allowed to continue parking in these areas during the evening hours and when work is completed in the area.
