Corvette owners taking part in the 20th anniversary National Corvette Caravan claim that “all roads lead to Bowling Green, Ky.” This year, the road to Bowling Green brings hundreds of Corvettes from all 50 states to Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
“This may be the one and only time that the Corvette Caravan comes to Cape Girardeau,” says Danny Essner of Capaha Bank, planning committee member. “Between the 300-400 caravan members that will be in town and the local cars that will be on display, we anticipate filling downtown Cape with Corvettes.”
Public festivities include a display of local Corvettes and the Corvettes participating in the Caravan. Hot Rod Nights will provide music, and demonstrations and simulators will be on hand, including the Seat Belt Convincer from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Fatal Vision Goggles from the Cape Girardeau Police Department, and the NASCAR Simulator from Auto Tire and Parts. Events will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Aug. 26, on Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau.
“I am looking forward to this great event. It will give Cape the opportunity to get an up-close look at these classics and visit with both local Corvette owners and members of the Corvette Caravan,” said Reg Swan, planning committee member and local Corvette enthusiast/owner.
“Corvette has made their way into not just American history but the American dream,” said Kenny Pincksten, planning committee member. “Never will this area be able to see so many American beauties gathered for this event.”
Additional planning committee members for the Corvette Caravan stop in Cape Girardeau come from the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, Old Town Cape, the City of Cape Girardeau, and other community members and businesses.
