News Release: Violent Crime Task Force Activated & Major Case Squad Re-Activated

On Wednesday July 2nd, 2014, members of the Southeast Missouri Violent Crime Task Force were activated.  Approximately 30 police officers from various departments were on patrol.  Numerous arrests were made for many different violations.  Totals are not available at this time.  Included was a vehicle that failed to yield to a police officer and subsequently rolled their vehicle near the intersection of Edgewood and Gordonville Rd.  The driver was transported to a local hospital for minor non-life threatening injuries.  The driver has pending charges for multiple traffic violations.  The Task Force will be used to assist jurisdictions in locating and arresting wanted persons and curb violent crime.
Also on Wednesday July 2nd, 2014 the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad was activated to further investigate multiple crimes that have taken place in Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau County, including the two homicides and other shootings.  Illinois State Police, Sikeston DPS, Charleston DPS, Poplar Bluff Police Department and various federal agencies are assisting the Major Case Squad in their advanced intelligence sharing.  The Major Case Squad will be comparing commonalities between the shootings and homicides to determine any similarities.  They will also be following up on multiple leads that have come forward.
Today Richard L. Jenkins, age 28 from Cape Girardeau, was arrested by Charleston DPS on Cape Girardeau County warrants for class C Felony Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, class C Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and class A misdemeanor Resisting Arrest for an incident that occurred on April 1st, 2014.
