Dr. Leanna Depue, Director of MoDOT’s Traffic and Highway Safety Division, will be on hand to recognize the program and those who have been instrumental in providing this training program for the past 20 years.
The Team Spirit Leadership Training is a peer to peer training program designed to empower high school-aged youth to take an active role in promoting safe driving habits by tackling underage drinking, drinking and driving, texting and driving as well as speeding and lack of safety belt use.
“Motor vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for youth under the age of 21,” stated Sharee Galnore, Team Spirit Coordinator. “While at the training, each team will develop an Action Plan addressing traffic safety concerns identified at heir school and in their community. “We believe that local people solve local problems. Our goal is to educate and empower teens to make a difference and save lives,” stated Galnore.
