Information Released: Saturday, June 28, 2014 — 2 a.m. (#1)
On Saturday June 28 at approximately 12:09 a.m. officers from the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to the 800 block of Jefferson Street for a report of a subject down in the alley. When officers arrived they found a black male on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. The male was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton. At this time no one is in custody. The name of the victim is not being released pending the notification of his family. The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad was activated to investigate this incident. More information will be released at a later time.

The victim in the homicide in the 800 block of Jefferson Street has been identified as 26-year-old Anthony Lynn Hempstead of 330 South Middle Street Cape Girardeau, Mo. His immediate family was notified by Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton.
