Upcoming Emerson Bridge Inspection, Expect Rolling Lane Closures and Cable Inspectors on the Bridge

Information from a Missouri Department of Transportation Southeast District news release

The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for an inspection of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge on Route 74 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Work will begin on March 3 through March 18.

MoDOTs contractor, Modjeski and Masters, will perform the 2014 inspection of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge as well as an in-depth inspection of the structure’s features. The inspection will require lane and shoulder closures, however only one lane and shoulder will be closed in either direction to minimize traffic impacts.

In addition to inspecting the underside of the structure, the contractor will also examine the cable system of the bridge. Inspectors will be rappelling from the towers down the stay cables. Additionally, the contractor will survey miscellaneous items from the deck level.

Weather permitting, work will begin Monday, March 3 and will be completed by Tuesday, March 18. Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. As work is underway, traffic will be minimally impacted.
