Youth Tennis Lessons Begin in October for Children Ages 8-12

On Oct. 2 an instructor from City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will begin teaching a beginner youth tennis course for any child ages 8 – 12.

Classes will begin on the second and will run through Oct. 23. Students will meet every Wednesday at the Arena Park tennis courts from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for a resident of Cape Girardeau and $25 for a non-resident.

According to Recreation Coordinator Stacey Welter this is just a beginner tennis course to get children interested in tennis and encourage them to learn more about the sport.

Students are not required to bring their own racket or tennis balls, all equipment can be provided if necessary. The instructor will focus on both practice and instruction and students will learn about proper grip, stance, swing, serve, and ball placement. They will also learn to control the depth and power of their swings. Recreation services ask that students wear proper clothes and footwear and bring their own water bottles.

Classes range from 6 – 12 children in size and should be registered for the course by Sept. 23. Registration can be completed by calling Parks and Recreation at (573) 339-6730.
