Poston’s specific roll for the City is purchasing. She also processes bidding for the City on commodities and services.
For 14 years, Poston worked in the private sector as a purchasing agent before working for the City.
“When the City advertised for a buyer position, I applied and they hired me. I started in 1987 and have been here ever since,” Poston explained.
The Finance Department recently adopted new software. This new software is paperless with everything done electronically with no filing needed.
“It is a new learning curve. It’s different, but we are adapting it to the way the City does things,” said Poston.
Poston grew up 16 miles south of Cape Girardeau in the small town of Chaffee, Mo. She and her husband have lived in Cape Girardeau for 58 years.
“I have three children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One granddaughter lives in Scott City, but everyone else lives here in Cape,” Poston said.
In Poston’s spare time, she participates in bowling leagues during the winter months on Wednesday nights. She has bowled in the leagues for more than 30 years.
Poston and her husband have taken motorcycle trips to Florida, Texas, Arkansas and many other places. During the summer months, Poston and her husband join in a weekly dinner motorcycle ride with Grassroots BMW. The Postons are also members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA).
