Free Fun for All During 2013 Parks and Rec Day on July 12 in Cape Girardeau

On Friday, July 12, the City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual, free Parks and Rec Day at the Osage Centre.

This day of fun starts at 11 a.m. and lasts unDSC_0088til 3 p.m. At this event, there will be a number of activities from games and crafts, to ice cream and water activities. Southeast Missouri State University sports mascot, Rowdy the Redhawk, will make a visit during the event.

“Everyone should come and be part of this event, because not only is it completely free for everyone, but it will be a fun day to spend with the Parks and Recreation Department and also the community,” said Stacey Welter, Recreation Coordinator.

Like last year’s Parks and Rec Day there will be a large inflatable fun house for kids, the Police and Fire Departments will have vehicles displayed outside, and Lazy L Safari will bring animals for a petting zoo. There will be a designated Nerf Gun area play, along with a Bingo room where the winners will receive prizes.

Other event vendors include the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center, SoutheastHEALTH, the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, Texas Roadhouse, Wehrenberg Cape West 14 Cine theater and more.

Because July is National Parks and Recreation Month, it is the perfect time to hold Parks and Rec Day. This is a great opportunity to get kids active and excited to join activities that the Parks and Recreation Department have to offer.

At 1 p.m., the Parks and Recreation Department will reveal a special surprise, so be sure to stick around until then!

Don’t forget to visit the Parks and Recreation booth and fill out a form to receive one free kids admission ticket with one adult purchase to Cape Splash.
