The City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Foundation has received donations of $12,000 needed for this summer’s 2013 Independence Day fireworks show, according to Mr. Rodger Brown of USA Veterans of Cape Girardeau.
The initial anonymous donor contributed $6,000 in hopes of encouraging other interested groups to lend their financial support for the show. Isle Casino Cape Girardeau was quick to follow with a matching $6,000.
“We heard about the on-going efforts by the veterans’ organization to raise funds for the fireworks and decided to do what we could to help bring fireworks to Cape Girardeau this year,” said Isle Casino Interim Manager Barron Fuller. “We salute all veterans who put their lives on the line for our nation and hope that everyone enjoys the celebration in Cape this year.”
The City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will be working with USA Veterans to finalize the details of the show in the coming weeks. The show is scheduled for Thursday, July 4 at Arena Park and will occur after the Spirit of America Award presentation at 9 p.m., with fireworks set to go off at approximately dusk at 9:15 p.m. The fireworks company is AM Pyrotechnics out of Buffalo, Mo. and has provided the show for the last four years.
