Wednesday special collection service of compost bags, bundled limbs and brush in Cape Girardeau is suspended, effective immediately, until further notice. Service to the compost drop off containers at the Recycling Center Facility, 2007 Southern Expressway, is also suspended.
The City of Cape Girardeau Public Works Department’s holding area for collected compost, limbs and brush is currently inaccessible due to Mississippi River flooding.
As soon as the Mississippi River drops below flood stage and the holding area is available, Public Works will resume Wednesday special collections and compost drop off at the Recycling Center.
Wednesday special collection for non-yard waste items is still available by calling Public Works at 573-339-6351. The service is available free, once yearly, to Cape Girardeau trash and recycling customers. Additional special collections are available for a small fee.
Other options for yard refuse and compost:
The Transfer Station, located in the 2500 block of South Sprigg Street, will accept limbs or brush for $52.25 per ton plus the weekly fuel surcharge rate.
Some yard waste may be burned within according to the City’s open burning regulations. Please check with the City of Cape Girardeau Fire Department before burning yard waste whether or not today is an “okay to burn” or “no burn day” by visiting cityofcape.org/fire, or by calling 573-339-6330.
