Staff Profile: Golf Course Manager Brian Schlichting

Schlichting, BrianBrian Schlichting has been the Golf Course Manager at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course since January 2011.

Schlichting, who is from Altenburg, Mo., graduated from Perryville High School. He received a degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2006.

As Golf Course Manager, Schlichting manages daily operations at the golf course. This includes overseeing tournaments, concessions, and financial operations.

Beyond golf-related responsibilities, Schlichting also manages the City’s girls youth basketball league and the youth track club for the City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.  Schlichting says that he enjoys providing people with a fun atmosphere.

“I like providing people with the best part of their day, whether that be out here at the golf course or in any other recreation events that we happen to do as well,” Schlichting said.

Schlichting, who began golfing in college, enjoys being on the course and the feeling of having a good shot. When asked what advice he gives to beginning golfers, Schlichting says it’s important to stay positive.

“The game is not easy; remember the good shots and forget the bad ones,” Schlichting said.

Outside of playing golf, Schlichting enjoys spending time with his 7-year-old son, 7-month-old daughter, and his wife. Schlichting also enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing and hiking.
