The City of Cape Girardeau Police Department will assist EPIC (Early Prevention Impacts Communities) in a prescription drug tack back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27, at the  West Park Mall parking lot.

EPIC, formally the Southeast Missouri Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition, is a nonprofit organization seeking to prevent substance abuse among youth, ages 12 to 20, in Cape Girardeau County. EPIC wants to eliminate the use of prescription drugs, narcotics, alcohol and tobacco while promoting healthy attitudes and behaviors of Southeast Missouri’s youth.

According to Cape Girardeau Police Department Lieutenant Rick Price, prescription drug take back events are very important for the community.

“These events allow us to get a lot of prescription drugs out of the hands of potential abusers and adolescents alike,” said Price.

If you are unable to attend the event, Price says that the Department has a permanent prescription drug drop box located at the Police Station that takes drop offs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Permanent drop boxes reduce the risk of prescription drugs being consumed inappropriately and helps stop prescription drugs from entering the water supply.
