FEMA Grant Provides New Turnout Gear for Fire Department

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department received 32 sets of turnout gear from an Assistance to Firefighters grant.  New gear as demonstrated by Captain Dean Lynn (left), incorporates the latest advances in protective textile material, as well as meeting the latest requirements of the National Fire Protection Standards.  Selection of turnout gear was based upon material weight, thermal and abrasion resistance, colorfast, reflective material, tear strength, water absorption as well as comfort and fit.  Other features selected included an integrated harness, equipment specific pockets, padded knee protection and durability.
