Groves Park of Cape Girardeau recently received a new playground in addition to its one, small, picnic table with shelter included. The large, brightly-colored playground is equipped with three slides, several climbing areas, pull-up bars, monkey bars and sliding bars. Currently, playground mulch is being distributed beneath the structure, and, once complete, two swings will be attached to the large, green swing set frame.
The playground was installed by the City Parks and Recreation Department staff in August. The unit was provided by NuToys/Landscape Structures. The Parks staff is also planning the construction of a new picnic pavilion in Groves Park this fall.
Groves Park is a secluded and quiet area hidden on Jean Ann Drive off of North Cape Rock Drive. Along with the new playground equipment is a relatively large valley that stretches out into a wooded area. To the left is a small wood, and, to the right, a minute creek and stilled neighborhood. The trees and shade are very serene. This is a perfect area for the whole family to have fun and relaxation in a combined setting.
