Cape Girardeau Area Law Enforcement Searching for Assault Suspect

On Monday, Aug. 20 at 8 p.m., officers from the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to the 2800 block of Themis Street on a domestic assault report.

Upon arrival, the officers made contact with a woman who stated that she had been assaulted by a live-in boyfriend, Joseph R. Hurt.  The woman stated that Hurt began assaulting her on Sunday afternoon, continuing through Monday.  The woman sustained moderate, non-life threatening injuries, and made the police report after Hurt had left the residence.

A warrant has been issued for Hurt on second-degree domestic assault, with a $25,000 cash-only bond. Update: Hurt later turned himself in to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
