The Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (YSAPC) Advocacy Committee will be hosting the first event of their Breakthrough Breakfast Series at 9 a.m. on June 19 at SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence (SADI), 1913 Rusmar Avenue.
YSAPC Project Coordinator Shelly Wood said the Advocacy Committee facilitates multiple educational events for the community and the Coalition about local drug trends. This event is the first of several in the Breakthrough Breakfast Series, with the hopes of raising awareness of drug use in the Cape Girardeau community. Wood said the first event will focus on synthetic drug use, as signs of its increase in the community have been noticed.
The topic of prescription and over-the-counter drugs will be presented and discussed in the fall, followed by two more presentations on alcohol and tobacco.
Officers from the Cape Girardeau Police Department will take part as members of the panel of law enforcement officials that will lead the presentation and discussion. Breakfast will be provided. For more information contact Shelly Wood at 573-587-1921 or email@example.com.
