The Cape Riverfront Market will be open for business starting this Saturday, May 5 at 8 a.m., in the parking lot at 35 South Spanish Street next to Celebrations Downtown and across from Bel Air Bar and Grill.
The new, open-air market will run Saturday mornings, May 5 through October 27, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The market includes 26 weekly, seasonal vendors and additional daily vendors selling a variety of products including farm-fresh produce, organic products, meats, cheeses, baked goods, jams, honey and arts and crafts. All products are locally grown, produced or prepared.
Some of the vendors accept credit cards and the market has plans to provide EBT accessibility. For a list of both seasonal and daily vendors visit http://caperiverfrontmarket.com/vendors/.
Weekly demonstrations and entertainment as well as a sitting area will also be available for patrons.
The market was developed with input from the community through a public forum facilitated by Charles Hopper, marketing specialist from the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Old Town Cape is the umbrella organization for the Cape Riverfront Market.
“We are thrilled to partner with the local community to open this new market in the heart of downtown Cape Girardeau,” said Levi Olson, market manager. “As we developed the market, we really worked hard to incorporate the ideas and suggestions from the community.”
“We are so excited to be part of this market and all that it will bring to not only downtown but the entire community,” added Old Town Cape Executive Director Marla Mills. “A downtown market was identified in the Downtown Strategic plan as a great opportunity. This market will greatly add to the downtown’s sense of place.”
