OldTownCape is hosting its 20th Annual Parade of Lights on Sunday November 27th, 2011. The parade will begin at approximately 5:00 P.M. or as soon as dusk arrives. The parade route starts at CapahaPark and proceeds down Broadway turns on Main Street and ends at Merriwether.
Parade chairman, Kent Zickfield explains, “It’s amazing how this event has grown so rapidly over the past 20 years. This parade is a good way to start the celebration of Christmas and it truly has become an iconic event for the community.”
Each year there are approximately one hundred lighted, musical entries in the parade. This year’s theme is “A Picture Perfect Christmas.” As always Santa Claus will be on the final float riding in his sleigh. The Downtown Christmas Parade of Lights is a highly anticipated event each year that brings hundreds of visitors to the OldTownCape district as it officially kicks off the Christmas season downtown.
The Parade of Lights is made possible by Christmas in Old Town Cape Sponsors who also assist with the Downtown Christmas Open House & downtown Christmas decoration expenses. Those sponsors are Drury Southwest, Rhodes 101 Convenience Stores and Regions Bank. In addition this event is a success thanks to the Southeast Missourian, our media sponsor.
OldTownCape is a nationally accredited Main Street Program that works to build a downtown community that cherishes its past and is an economically viable district in which the citizens of Cape Girardeau can live, work and play.
