Squad Disbands, Investigation Continues, 911 Ranney Shooting – Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad

With regard to the October 6, 2015, shooting death of Howard Smith Jr., the Cape Girardeau and Bollinger County Major Case Squad has disbanded per the 72 hour standard activation period. A person of interest has been detained on unrelated charges. At this time, the Cape Girardeau City Police Department continues to conduct a follow-up investigation.
