Sign Up Now for the 2013 Adult Flag Football League

It’s time to register your team for the 2013 fall Adult Flag Football League, hosted by the City of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.

The team format will be seven on seven with a seven game season plus the playoffs with possible double headers. There will be two to three division depending on how many teams that register, with Division 1 being the highest ranking.

Ages 17 and up can be on the teams, and the team managers/captains must be at least 18 years old. Anyone on the teams who is 17 must fill out a waiver form and have it signed by a parent or guardian.

The game days will be on Sunday afternoons or evenings and Thursday evenings. They will be held at Arena Park fields 5 and 6.

The cost is $250 per team. The deadline to register your team is Sept. 2, with the team managers’ meeting taking place on Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Osage Centre. The season will begin on Sept. 26.

Started by Recreation Coordinator Chris Eastridge in 1996, hosted by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department and coordinated by Tony Weatherby, this year’s league will have some new rule changes introduced for the season.

Weatherby says he’s working on adapting the rules used in the youth NFL flag football league for the adult league play, since the national flag football rules state that there is no contact in the sport. New league play rules will be explained in depth at the team managers’ meeting.

Weatherby encourages more coed teams to join in the fun. Last year, Weatherby says he was approached by a couple of [coed] teams who were interested in joining, since it’s usually all males playing. Weatherby hopes to have least four coed teams, which is enough to make a separate division for them this year.

If you think that getting out and playing a little friendly football sounds like a fun way to kick off fall, then sign up today! Please call 573-339-6340, 573-339-6626 or visit cityofcape.org/leagues for more information.
