Beginning next week, weather permitting, contractors will begin working to install the pedestrian bridge over Sloan Creek, connecting the northern section of the river walk to the Red Star Access boat ramp area in downtown Cape Girardeau. Installation of the 100-foot-long pedestrian bridge is expected to take about 90 days, depending on weather and river levels.
The work is not expected to cause additional trail closures. The southern end of the river walk is still closed at Themis Street, as crews work to add about 1,300 feet to the existing path.
Extending this trail in the area also known as Riverfront Park adds to the amount of pedestrian and biking space in Cape Girardeau.
