Marcia will be remembered for her many accomplishments in her lifetime. A life full of service, whether it be her innovations and leadership at both hospitals in town, her missionary work in Mozambique and other countries or her eight years on the city council. She was always thoughtful and had a quiet but purposeful way of influencing others toward the betterment of the whole. I will always remember how incredibly smart she was. She would analyze a problem, break it down and find a better solution that most people would never take the time to see.
The Mayor [Harry Rediger] is out of town and wanted to pass along his condolences and memories of his time with Marsha. Harry and Marsha go back a long way through their time together at Saint Francis Hospital and her husband being on the school board with the Mayor.
Cape Girardeau is better because of her service and the many people she touched are better for having known her.
While our loss is great, we certainly keep her family in our prayers during this difficult time.
Jay Knudtson, while Mayor, also recognized her service in April 2010 with this proclamation. Marcia Ritter served the City as a Council Representative from 2002-2010. A nurse by trade, Ritter was the Vice President of Patient Care with Saint Francis Medical Center and she served in numerous leadership and volunteer positions with the American Red Cross, Cape Area Family Resource Center, Zonta, MAGNET, and the Chamber of Commerce. Her friends, family and colleagues attended her visitation and funeral on Nov. 29, 2016.
