In preparation for a new roundabout to improve traffic flow at the busy Independence/Gordonville/Rodney intersection, contractors will close Gordonville Road from Independence Street south to Edgewood Drive on Aug. 1. That section will remain closed through part of the roundabout project work and is expected to reopen to motorists in November 2016 (weather permitting). Residents along the affected stretch of Gordonville will be able to access their homes from the south.

The $741,000 project will be partly funded by the Transportation Trust Fund, as approved by voters in 2010. The Small Urban Surface Transportation Program, a federal grant, will cover 80 percent of the cost.

The intersection at Independence and East Rodney will remain open during the busy SEMO District Fair Sept. 9 -17. Once the intersection closes (approximately Sept. 19), it will remain closed for a maximum of 60 days. Once complete, officials estimate that the roundabout intersection’s traffic will be about 15,000 vehicles per day, with the potential to accommodate up to 25,000 vehicles per day.
