The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Sonic Drive In, 1764 North Kingshighway, on Dec. 30, 2016 at 6:38. R-4 arrived on scene and advised they had a moderate smoke showing from the building. R-4 took command upon arrival and went into offensive mode. They made entry into the building they advised they had a small fire contained to the fryer and ventilation system. BC-3 arrived on scene and took command and was then advised by R-4 that we had an all clear on the structure. E-1 arrived and made entry and then assisted R-4 with extinguishing the fire using “purple k” extinguishers. L-1 arrived on scene and gained access to the roof and they removed the ventilation hood that had fire still coming from it. After L-1 completed ventilation the fire was extinguished, all other companies then assisted with overhaul.
The fire suppression system that Sonic had installed performed as it was designed and kept this fire from growing and kept damage to a minimum.
