The Downtown Sidewalk Replacement and Lighting project is expected to move forward in the first quarter of 2017 now that Council has authorized staff to contract with Fronabarger Concreters.
The project consists of the replacement of existing sidewalks and street lights along a 900-foot section of Main Street located between Broadway and Independence in Downtown Cape Girardeau. Included is concrete sidewalk, decorative street lighting, electrical conduit and wiring, decorative pavement, storm sewer, cold milling, asphalt paving, landscaping, irrigation, street furniture and all appurtenances as indicated in the Project Plans and Specifications prepared by Horner & Shifrin, Inc.
The City has designated a portion of the Transportation Trust Fund monies and the Casino Riverfront Development Funds to be used on the Downtown Sidewalk Replacement and Lighting project. The construction contract will be issued to the low base bidder, Fronabarger Concreters Inc., for a total of $1,243,680.80 which includes both the base bid and an alternate.
With plans complete, the contractor should begin work in late January. Another stakeholder meeting will also be scheduled in January.
