Downtown Crosswalk Replacement Begins Jan. 11 in Cape Girardeau

Beginning Jan. 11, streets in downtown Cape Girardeau will receive a small face lift. Crosswalks made of pavers on Main, Spanish and Themis streets will be replaced by red, scored colored concrete to match recent upgrades along the Broadway corridor. The road work, contracted to Fronabarger Concreters, will last about six weeks, weather permitting.

Main Street intersections will remain open to at least one traffic lane. Intersections on Spanish and Themis will briefly close to traffic during the project. Signs will direct traffic around the construction area, and motorists are asked to use caution.

Downtown businesses are open for visitors during the construction. Parking is available both on-street and in existing lots next to Broadway, Spanish, Water and Main streets. Signs will be placed around construction noting that businesses are open and parking is available.

For more information, contact the City of Cape Girardeau Development Services Division at 573-339-6327.

UPDATE 1/17: Eight additional crosswalks have been added to this project. Details…
