Mayor Pro Tempore/Ward 3 Representative Victor Gunn presented a proclamation during the Oct. 3 City Council meeting, honoring October as “Pink Up Cape Month” in Cape Girardeau. Accepting the proclamation was Gerry Salter, Vice President of Professional Services, for Saint Francis Medical Center.
The proclamation’s text is as follows:
Whereas, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States; and
Whereas, about one in eight women will have invasive breast cancer during her lifetime; and
Whereas, 2016 marks the 31st anniversary of Saint Francis Medical Center’s Womancare offering breast health and osteoporosis screening services to the Cape Girardeau region; and
Whereas, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Saint Francis Medical Center continues it efforts to Pink Up Cape in order to create local awareness about the importance of early detection and to save lives.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Victor Gunn, Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, do hereby proclaim the month of October, 2016 as
Pink Up Cape Month and encourage all citizens to support the efforts of Saint Francis Medical Center by learning the facts of breast cancer and wearing pink during the month of October to honor survivors, raise awareness about the disease, and help save lives.
