The Cape Girardeau Police Department, in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club, partnered to establish a Little Free Library outside of Police Headquarters, 40 South Sprigg Street.

The Library functions as an educational and outreach tool to children and community members in Cape Girardeau. The Library builds a sense of community, promotes literacy and the love of books.

In its most basic form, a Little Free Library is a freestanding bookcase where anyone may stop by and pick up a book and bring back another book to share. The Cape Girardeau Police Department’s Little Free Library is registered in a National Registry, where community members can locate the Library online. The books will be re-stocked through generous donations of community members, non-profit organizations, and police officers.

“Our Little Free Library doesn’t just belong to us, it belongs to the whole city,” says Chief Wes Blair. “It’s our hope that this Little Free Library will bring a little more joy, a little more connection, and a whole lot more books to our community.”
